Why a maxi-scooter?
A maxi-scooter gives you most of what a commuter motorcycle does, with less effort. There is no clutch or gear-shifting, the riding position is upright and relaxed, the bodywork and screen keep wind and rain off you, and the underseat storage swallows a helmet and shopping. From 300cc up they are perfectly happy at highway speed, so they are not just town toys. For a daily rider who values comfort and convenience over sportiness, a maxi-scooter is often the more sensible choice than a motorcycle.
Which licence and size?
The 300 to 400cc maxis (Forza 350, Burgman 400, Vespa GTS 300) are A2-friendly in most European markets and are the sweet spot for commuting and light touring. The big-bore flagships (TMAX 560, Forza 750) are full-A-licence machines with much more power and weight, better suited to experienced riders doing serious distance. Match the size to your licence and how much highway you actually ride, and always confirm local rules.
